In August 2018, she was awarded a prestigious BRICS scholarship to attend BRICS International school for a week. She was selected through a competitive process as part of 35 young professionals from BRICS countries and other parts of Europe and Asia aged between 18 to 35. The BRICS International school was hosted in Moscow, Russia from August 27 to 31st by National Russian Committee on BRICS Research and the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund.
As a young African leader, Sphiwe would like to get as much international exposure as possible to meet like-minded youth and build a network that she can use to combat social problems facing young people in Africa. One of her favourite quotes is “the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow” by the former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.
